Clear/Yellow Death on e48 Mix

Well, got another case of the "clear death" on a 50/50 mix. I just switched over to 93 last week after running the mix for the spring/summer. Last night the car was idling at 700+ HPFP Actual Pressure and making some funny mechanical noises (like the ticking but deeper and more random) along with the normal ticking noise. Pulled the pump to find everything was sticky icky and there was clear/yellow film where it was sticky. There was also a bit of black buildup. Cleaned everything up and it made the mechanical noises again for a few minutes and then it went away. Drove the car to work and did a WOT pull. 1900-2000 at WOT and 420-430ish at idle now. So *crosses fingers* back to normal now.

Kwik Trip e85 with Kwik Trip 10% eth 89 octane- was also running Rotella. I am now running BP 93 octane (as of last week) and PP 5w30 (as of ~1-2 months and 2000 miles ago).

Yeah Rotella and e don't mix very well together. If you change oils to royal purple you will have better luck running a 50/50 mix. We are Woking on a pump mod so everyone can experience the joys of running any amounts of E desired whenever they want with any oil they want. We are still in the testing stages though.

I've followed your thread a bit and have seen what you're doing. I'm definitely interested. I'll be off the corn sauce until next spring now though.

I've been running 50/50 with Pennzoil Platinum for almost 2 years, with only a month on 93 and haven't had any issues other than failing fuel level senders (because pu fail).

I've definitely noticed a complaint pattern with Rotella.

Well is seems to do really well with our UOAs, but like anything with our cars, we can only have so much win without inevitable fail.

is it the Pennzoil platinum 5w-30 full synthetic? i noticed the rottella pattern in diffrent threads as well, i'm switching it up next oil change

I ran Pennzoil Ultra and 50/50 for many moons without a problem. I just know from experience RP was the most resistant to death.

Yup. Seems to be a lot cleaner after 2k miles than the Rotella too, which is potentially positive or negative. My concern with it is that it doesn't have the detergent quality of Rotella.

Anyone that is shooting for an exact mix and puts x amount in of either corn or pump then tops it off with the other is doing it very, very wrong.

No. I never top off. 5/5 gallons usually. If I'm really empty I'll do 6/6.

I have no other choice at the moment, because I don't have a functioning level sender. I do the best I can to estimate. Generally I'm very close; within .3 of a gallon. Sometimes its more. Depends on what happened that week.

But to say that its always perfect, would be untrue. So I don't think that has anything to do with your gunk of death or whatever you call it.

Ive been on a 4 gal mix and now a 3 gal mix with the bt for about 12 - 15k and haven't had any issues yet.

More towards op. I'm just curious how much of a difference in the clear sticky we see when comparing a 25% mix too a 50% mix.

No clue honestly. I'm just reporting my experience on a 50% mix. I've never run 25%. From my understanding it's a non-issue on 25% and relatively rare on 50%, though I've seen more of it lately.

I'd agree. Although, I think the increase is in part caused by the corn sauce being used by more of us. I'll Prob take a look at mine this winter.
