Default Meth Tank Interest

We have made several different size tanks that fit on the drivers side underneath the headlight. These have a inconspicuous remote fill and all tanks include a level sensor. We have designed these so that the pump mounts directly to the tank making it a nice compact easy direct bolt on setup. I'd like some feedback on the tank sizes (to simplify production) and material of construction (to ease worrisome minds). I will post pics a little bit later.

Tank sizes we have fit: 1gal, 1.5gal, 2gal & 3gal

Material of construction: .125" 5052 Aluminum with type III black hard anodizing

Cost is a factor in hard anodizing of larger parts so therefore we'd like to reduce the selection of sizes to significantly cut this cost.

Why do these tanks need to be hard anodized? For ease of manufacturing we have chosen to make these out of aluminum. Methanol will attacks aluminum's protective oxide layer over time causing corrosion. For the last 2 years we have tested this on an uncoated tank running a 50/50 mix and have zero corrosion. We are coating the tanks just as a precaution if anyone uses a stronger mix of meth. Better safe than sorry.
Why not just make it out of stainless? If this is what people have an interest in than I certainly will. Stainless does raise production cost so that's a factor.

Thanks for any feedback or questions.

Matt

If it'll fit I'd like the three gallon... no reason not to go bigger (for me anyway... would it interfere with FMIC piping?)

You say the pump mounts directly to the tank; what pumps do you have in mind - DO, Snow, or something else? What type of remote fill will it include (IE, hard neck like the windshield wash reservoir, or flexible tube? What diameter, etc)?

Woohoo! Finally. Would your mounting location interfere with Oil catch cans or CAIs?

size isn't to big of a concern to me as long as their is a level sensor. As for pump mounting. If you included a flat piece of metal mounted to the tank, we can just drill out own holes and mount it that way. Or it could come pre drilled with several different holes to accommodate the most commen meth pumps. Also, the remote fill tube would be the cats ass, as their isn't much out their for that.

As for the cost of the tank, I don't know what the cost stainless vs. aluminum is but for a bolt on tank with filler and pump mounting location. $250 +/- is where I'd be at. If stainless is at or around that I'd buy it, as most highly modified cars, especially the ones that relay on meth as a fuel, run more than 50/50.

Just curious what the cost difference is between the alum with hard anodizing and the SS?

Is there any chance the anodizing would wear off after a long period of exposure?

If the level is easily checked, and easily refilled I would suggest one size that is guarnteed not to interfere with OCC or FMIC routing. Just the largest that will fit in there.

Of course it all depends on how expensive it would be for you to have multiple sizes. If it isn't that big of a deal then you could make different ones. But initially I would say just go with what will def work to start generating some sales (and please the mob).

Is the level sensor dip stick like? Or is it compatable with electronic sensors that some kits use? Or is it a low level warning light that can be run to the cab?

Finally for pump mounting, maybe have a bracket that bolts up to a mounting plate that is sized for different pumps. (Tank to plate, plate to pump) Or offer a universal undrilled plate. I just wouldn't want anyone to risk effing up the tank itself.

That is what I was trying to say. Biggest size that won't cause interference for most setups.

Also, lots of people (myself included) run 100% meth; something to consider when choosing material.

One last question... Can I have it by Christmas?

I've always thought someone should make a decent pump/tank combo that would fit in the spare tire well. Might even work cross platform too, alot of cars run those little space saver tires.

Most of the pumps are the same and/or have the same mounting bracket. It will be very easy to include a plate for those needing a custom mounting solution. We will be carrying Devils Own components and offering complete packages soon. We will be catering mostly to those wanting direct port injection.

The remote fill is aluminum with a vented cap connected by a 1" flexible hose. This is for ease of installation and the varying headlights on a gen 1.

It won't interfere with the catch cans that mount in that area, not sure about CAI's. My guess would be no, but I will factor that and make changes if necessary.

The cost difference between aluminum and stainless isn't so much the cost of materials, but time. The labor costs of stainless are almost a third more than aluminum. I estimate the difference being about $35-40.

The electronic level sensor is the same that's offered in most kits. They will be included with every tank. We place the sensor at a nice and safe level so that if the low level indicator comes on you will still be at a safe level.

I don't forsee the hard anodizing ever wearing through even with straight meth.

make sure you put the port on the bottom toward the back of it. that way when you go WOT, all the meth goes there and pumps dont starve and people dont blow up

I'm definitely interested as well. Down in the fender definitely works for me. I already have a kit, pump etc, so I would mostly just be looking for the tank and bracket

I would love this as I'm pending on my meth kit install. Just bought a bunch of metal to fab brackets so this solution would save me a massive headache. Thin wall stainless would be preferred.

Will you be offering nozzles, elbows, controllers... For an all in 1 or is this simply a tank/pump combo?

Also, I previously had a methanol tank mounted in this location (it's in the trunk now) and I had mine sitting VERY low, which would have interfered with fmic pipes (I had an ETS at the time) but mounting slightly higher I could see that it would easily clear fmic pipes and a CAI, there is a lot of space in that fender well.

If my input matters any, I would prefer the new tank to replace the stock washer bottle with a larger one. I have an oil cooler under the driver-side headlight with a fan and it takes up much of the room.

There a few of us local Toronto guys waiting for the 4" intakes, if that motivates you any.

Thanks.

Thanks @HTP; for developing parts that no other does, and moving this platform in the right direction.

I feel this is a good way to express my experience with them. Good things come to those who wait. I personally have seen what Matt is capable of, not just the fantabulous fab work he does each day with that magic wand of his, but in creating parts like many have said, which are needed for this platform and he thinks of ways to create them more cost efficient.

There is something great about a company that asks what their customers would like to see in a product they are developing. Shows they understand the passion the end user has for placing a quality part in their car and how much they (HTP) care about satisfying them 100% by encouraging input.

Thanks for each of your parts these past two years and for the countless good ideas and subtle changes you've made to upcoming items. Here's to an amazing tank coming out!

P.s. (Anodized aluminum 2 gal tank will suffice (:
and don't think Katie is void in the process, her hands get just as dirty some days haha )

Half tempted to make an extended washer fluid tank out of aluminum or stainless. I love the looks of a FMIC but I think on a DD, meth and a a TMIC might be a better solution. With that being said I should be able to completely fill either fender with a tank and never have to worry about interference

Its either that or keep waiting I guess.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

And if I tried to produce it to break even, you
couldn't afford it.

And if you could afford it, I'd be making about fifteen cents an hour.

Did I mention I spent waaaaaaay too much time on it?
