| Not Ranked : 0 score Get a new boot? Try and tuck the torn leather under the knob while screwing it down? Are you saying the knob is what messed the boot up? I've had probably 5 different knobs on my car and it has never torn like this...

| Not Ranked : 0 score same shit happened to me on my stock knob. Take the knob off, go into home depot, buy a washer that isnt bigger than the knob but has a big enough hole. Tuck the fucked leather in under the washer, screw on knob. you could use some glue probably but i just screwed mine on... should help a little bit. |

| Not Ranked : 0 score Are you sure? It doesn't look like you used a strap wrench yet. That looks like you could still easily apply up to 150 ft-lbs there.

The old knob messed up the boot because i screwed it in too tight. It looks like the glue that held it down from the factory has become undone. So idk what to do at this point. I cant tuck it back in because the new Cobb Knob does not screw down all the way to hold it in place. It just comes out again. I like the washer home depot idea.

| Not Ranked : 0 score If the glue came un done then simply glue it back into place.. I used gorilla glue when I installed my redline shift boot. It was the biggest pain in the ass. Put gorilla glue on a tooth pick and put pressure on the spots where the boot tore off. Hold it there for a few mins and let the glue dry. Make sure not to remove that plastic piece that the boot forms around. I had to remove that and install it on my new boot and you have to position it just right so the boot goes onto the shifter assembly even and in the right spots. Long story short: I didn't glue the black piece onto the boot right so I had to play around with my shift boot to make it look normal when placing it over the shifter assembly, so it wasn't all twisted and jacked up. I would glue and then use a washer to keep shift knob movement from ripping the boot off again. |
