anyone tried changing these bulbs yet? I looked in the owners manual and it says "bring to dealer for bulb replacement" lol...i tried searching the internet and no luck...i made a thread a couple months ago about this and got flamed but none who flamed owned a 11 with the tech pack ...so I don't think they understood that mine are different...someone be kind and share this info...i don't wanna break anything

From what I understand you must remove the front bumper to replace the bulbs.

if you have to remove the bumper sounds like you have to remove the headlight assembly in order to access the bulbs, that's how i do it on my Mazda 6 as well. anyways whats wrong with you headlights?

Yeah you have to remove the front bumper, not too difficult but not necessary until a bulb is out. The bulb is a d2s as well for future reference.

You can order those bulbs from DDM. They charge extra for them, but forget how much.

good to know, i actualy like the color of my factory HID's, wouldnt want to replace them, just for the fact to show that my car came with them from factory and didnt have to install a 40$ DDM kit.

i have the DDM 6k 55W on my mazda6 wagon, and you can tell they arn't factory, but look cool, not as good as the MS3 tho

The front bumper is extremely easy to remove. Here's a how-to, but you don't really need to put the car on stands if you are on stock height.

Novustechnic Multimedia Solutions

Just make sure you remove the foglight wiring to make your life easier.

Oh I don't know about that. I was just referencing the bumper removal. Just as an FYI though, if you ever plan on running meth don't get that horn kit.

Just so I am clear on the subject, the 2012 w/tech has HID's already and just need bulbs to upgrade? D2s bulbs for the low beams and no need for the full HID Kit right? and the fogs H11's correct? I have been looking all over this site for the answer and I just want to make sure that this is correct. I don't like the color or the brightness on the stock lights and want to upgrade that at least.

Thanks,
JW

That is correct. You can get both sets of bulbs through DDM.

So the fogs are HID's already as well? Or would a ballast kit be needed to upgrade those?

Thanks,
JW

Fogs are defnitely not HID. You can get LED bulbs to match the HID color, but those are for looks only. If you really need foglights, then upgrade to HID or keep your OEM.

that is because the factory HID is not High/Low Beam, you have the little projector that flips up for High beam.

HID's are not dual filament lights like a regular halogen bulb, because HID's take a moment to warm up you cant use them for just flashing your high beams.

If it helps i just did this like last week.. You dont need to take the bumper completely off. Just undo the clips like over the radiator and the fender liner, and the one actual screw. Then undo the two top side screws and one clip on the headlight. Then there is a long screw on the side, just peel the bumper off a little and unfasten the the headlight. Unscrew the little plastic warning cap and you'll see a grey peace..turn that i wanna say counter-clock wise and pull off, pinch the fastenrs off and bam bulb out...took i think like 15 min to do everything.

I know this post is old but these are all the answers I needed for my 2012 /w tech. So I wanted to thank you guys for the info.
EXCEPT.. has anyone had an issue with:
a: extra heat from higher color temp bulbs?
b: extra strain on stock wiring or electrical systems due to increased draw?
I know it's unlikely, I just want to cover my bases and make sure I won't encounter any problems if I throw a pair of 6k bulbs in with all the stock HID equipment.
Thanks!
