Default HID installation....HELP!

Ok, so I just bought a HID kit and have no clue where to begin and I know others have discussed this before but I need help knowing exactly what I need to do first. How do I remove the old bulbs? I looked at the stock setup last night and it looked complicated. Please help!

I over thought my install at first.. It came with the wires for the fuses and i was like "wtf??? they said this shit was gonna be easy.." .. after about 30 minutes i realized i didnt need that fucking thing and that the hardest part was tucking the wires so they couldnt be seen that easily.. looks pretty sharp.. just wish i could tick the headlight angle up a couple of degrees.. they shoot straight into the ground like yosemite sam..

you could try silicone caulk to angle things in the direction you want it to go. i've never tried this, but it's worth a shot, since you shouldn't need to angle things much to change it enough to be livable.

So when you upgrade your hids do you have to buy a kit or can you just change bulbs?

You'll need an entire kit (bulbs, ballasts, plug-n-play wires).

actually i have talked to HID sellers before about upgrading to a different K rating and they said all you need is the bulb the ballast doesn't really do anything but help supply the power to the bulb or something like that. the bulb is where the main k rating and all that jazz is at.. who knows though other HID manufacturers may say different to try to get more money out of you

a different K rating only means that you have a different colored light bulb. HID lights are not the same as regular incandescent lights. incandescents use a standard filament that gets toasted up until it starts glowing...much like your normal household light bulb. an HID light bulb is filled with vapor (xenon) and produces its light via an electric arc between two electrodes...much like street lamps. in order to pull off the arc, the electrodes need to have a massively high voltage difference between them (10s of thousands), which requires a ballast to pull off.

K rating really only tells you the color of the light. a real HID light, however, will give you 3x the light of a standard 55w incandescent headlight while only using 35w of power.

EDIT: now that i reread, it sounds like both hank3 and i read that 06spped6 was asking about upgrading TO an HID kit from stock incandescents, but bluedmnspeed read that he was asking how to "upgrade" already-HID stock lights to a different color. in that case, a different bulb would work.
