Default Poor paint quality

Does anyone else have paint issues on their Genpus?

After 7 years, my paint is fading on the spoiler. The roof and hood is fine though. Kind of wish I didn't get black.

Mazda's paint is almost comically thin.

They also didn't do us black car guys any favors by using a light primer underneath. My front end looks like it has dandruff from rock chips.

No issues here, mine is red though. Garage Kept and waxed several times a year. It's a 2010.
At least if it's just the spoiler should be relatively cheap to just get that re sprayed

I would not buy a new mazda because of fear of the shitty paint. I would prefer fading than rust. The rust protection on this car is laughable.

I have an 05 mazda 3 and its rusting exactly where my 07 is starting to show early signs. The 07 has been stored 2 winters now.

As @SaveMelMac; said it shouldn't be too expensive to fix.

I have measured the paint thickness all around the car, and the average thickness is around 88μm, I know my hood has been resprayed by one of the previous owners, and that is around 300μm.
A average new car's paint thickness is 80 to 90μm.
As a car detailer I have to measure the paint thickness of every vehicle we do.

Well, there is different primer/paint/clear quality. You can't really judge a finish by thickness of the paint.

Plus different companies use different metal prep methods.

Nope, but i can help a lot.
Als the original mazda's paint has been sprayed on in 2 factories. Maybe we can narrow it down a bit.

Ussually a faded paind job is a wrong prepared one. 95% of the times why the paint wil give errors is that if you take the car to a spray shop they will not prepare the surface correct.
If you forget degrease it correct then it will show on top of all the paint coatings.

Mine is getting a new paint job, as the clear coat has oxidized on the hood, roof, spoiler, and hatch. It looks white and like it is peeling off. Lots of cars in AZ have this malady. I hope to avoid it happening again by putting a clear bra on the front and keeping it covered when exposed to the sun for more than about an hour. This is my 5th Mazda and the first one to do this, though the first 4 were white.

black paint + rock chips are a nightmare. I avoid black cars because of this.

My silver is holding up nicely - minus a few rock chips that are semi-noticeable up close. Keep it waxed and in the garage

I got mine back yesterday. It looks great and I also have a clear bra on the front. I had the grille painted the car color and it looks great to me. I just drove 275 miles to the town where I am preaching tomorrow, so now it is covered with bugs.....

The clearcoat on my Genpu spoiler is starting to fail and the hood has failed closer to the windshield. The paint on the hood is starting to check. Kinda irritating as it's only a 6 year old car. My 93 RX7 took almost 20 years for the OEM paint to fail.

No clear coat issues here, but I can tell the paint layer is thin as it's almost blotchy in spots.

Sorry, Genwaner input...

Original owner on a red 09 MS3. Partly garage kept, and waxed 1-3 times per year. I had a thin spot develop on the left quarter panel that faces up near the back window and tail light. Just looks like the primer is showing through. The clear coat also shows an 8 type shape around this light spot. This became noticeable probably withing 3-4 years of the car being new. Also, at the age of about 6.5 years, my spoiler got a bunch of bubbles on it. At first I thought it was sap or something, so I picked one off, only to discover primer underneath. Fun.

I've come to terms with the fact that the factory paint job is mediocre at best. Some day when it's bad enough, I'll splurge on a whole new, well done paint job.

My speed's been garaged daily but my lease is coming up and I'll be moving to a bigger place, but there is no covered parking. Makes me want to get a cover or something to thwart that Texas sun !
