Default Guardian Angel Installed and Reviewed

Packaging





As you can see the device itself is a good looking piece of gear






i chose to mount it on top of the intake manifold (not the best location, but will test the GA against the heat and vibrations)


to tap for power youll want a 12V ign source. eng bar fuse is a great spot to use to tap for power





good way to test for a proper ground around the engine bay is to use a multimeter, the wires (were the red prong is resting on) is a 12v constant so that can be used to find your ground)



mounted and ready to go




extending the LED wires (may not be required depending on mounting location)




wires hooked up and tucked


log with GA turned OFF


log with GA turned ON @ 10 psi

notes: simple install minor electrical experience recommended, roughly same amount of work needed for installing a boost gauge

notes: very sturdy, and looks very good. tad heavier and larger than i imagined though

notes: works without issue

pricing:
notes: pricing is good though possibly a tad expensive depending on who you are. however this product still dwarfs the price of new engine if you were to sustain critical damage from an overboost situation

notes: precise and clear


aftermarket support:
notes: active member on msf/website with full support


tuning:
notes: some guess work involved with setting the correct psi, markers are only guidelines


final score: 3.5/4

final notes: awesome product to safe guard your engine from overboosting! imo very well priced although tad expensive to some. in the long run the price of a guardian angel is alot cheaper than a brand new engine, and at the same time when driving/racing one doesnt have the ability to watch the road and monitor parameters at the same time. GA is a very worthwhile investment that can possibly save your engine if an overboost situation were to ever occur. on a side note for those who are very finicky about precision the GA requires some trial and error tuning to get the arrow at the exact psi you want.

Thanks for posting this up Derek! Great and thorough review! It will be interesting how it will live on top of the intake manifold - electronics are generally NOT mounted on the engine due to heat and vibration. I recommend mounting it off the motor in the engine bay but Derek's going to test the limits

One small correction to the video that you guys may pick up on. Derek mentions that you need to restart your car to turn the GA off. This is not correct, the GA will reset once your foot is off the gas and car will operate normally past that point until you trip it again.

TIS TRUE!! i apologize for any confusion, bike pump did not provide vacuum during test and my lack of understanding for this device perceived it as normal function

Thanks Derek, very much for the review and write-up.

I was thinking of another great use for the GA... when you are having someone else drive your car, you can use it as a manual valet mode without changing your tune.

@Daddy Chinkus where did you get the 15amp add a fuse? All the ones im finding are 10amp max.

The way it is configured at the moment it would be difficult to get smaller ... but this is something I can keep in mind if an overhaul of the product is needed. I hope that it fits most engine bays in the current form factor although smaller is always better in this case.
