Default We make standalones

Some you may know this already but Stratified was started with an older platform - the Mazda B series motor. It wasn't direct injected, but loved to be boosted. The most popular implementation of that motor was of course in the Miata.

We've developed full plug and play standalone ECUs for these cars for a reasonable price and we've had them out of stock for a little while due to a redesign. They are finally all back in stock and ready to ship. They of course all have the Stratified quality and attention to detail you've come to expect.

If you have an older project Miata, Mazda, Ford or OBDI import (these also fit everything from Hondas to Toyotas) have a look. We have both fully plug and play units as well as "generic" ECUs that take about 1-2 hours to adapt and be ready to plug into the OEM harness.

The best part, no splicing of the OEM harness and full control real time tuning! (wish we had this on the DISI)

How do your ecus compare to say Megasquirt 3?
I'm planning on getting an Ms3-pro for my Falcon build, but if you've got something comparable and faster....

These ECUs are based on the MS2 which is older than the MS3 but very reliable and an open architecture. For the cars that these work on (1990s) and MS3 system would offer no advantages. The key attribute to these systems is that they are plug and play with the OEM harness, give you full control over spark and timing as well as peripherals such as fans, boost control, idle, etc. and you can run wasted spark or COP.

None of these cars are wired for sequential injection or have the sensors to make the higher resolution of the MS3 matter. Since there is little to gain from going to the MS3, the price jump in going there is not justified.

Thanks for the response; I'm actually looking for something a little more advanced (at least as robust as the MS3) for my build, so let me know if you ever expand your offerings. I think I'm probably another year or so out before I start looking at engine management.

For sure. There are a lot of choices out there once you move beyond the $1000 mark and for bigger builds. A lot of the people that buy our units generally have smaller budgets than these and like to learn, tune, and play with the software and the hardware.

I really like the MS for a platform that you can tinker with, learn on, and that was relatively simple to do so cheaply.

When building a bigger budget car I'm not sure if I would go with their newer offerings. The MS3 is no longer open source and you can't troubleshoot it like the older systems so customer support has to be there and their business model is not built around this.

I thought the hardware was closed source and patented but the software was open source and freely available to download...

The software is not extra money but also not always stable (don't get the latest and greatest).

The hardware up to MS3 had schematics. So you could troubleshoot and modify it. This stopped for the MS3s.

The ECUs would work but it depends on the OEM connector to the harness. The BMWs use the Bosch connectors so they won't plug in. The E30 market is big for the MS ECUs however and I love the E30 so there may be one down the line that is PNP. We have a list of what these fit (it's probably not complete) here:

Generic Stratified Megasquirt Plug and Play MSND76 ECU [0100-0006.1 (GENERIC_MSND76)] - $475.00CAD : Stratified Automotive Controls

If you have a question about a specific connector just throw up a picture of the ECU connector.

Thank you! This opens up windows for a future euro/rat rod project a friend and I might do.

@Lex; i have a 95 ford escort lx 1.9 slow as balls and automatic.

Is it even worth it if one of these things fits it? Or just a waste of money for the purpose of being a beater.

The 1.9 is unfortunately a bit of a waste and no one really makes parts for it. If you had the GT with the 1.8 DOHC (same as Miata and turbo GTX and GTR overseas) that's a different story and a very fun car. That was my first car. The motor is stout and ready for a turbo that can be sourced very cheaply.

You can also swap the 1.8 and harness into a 1.9 LX if you want to keep the shell but you're better off getting the GT (better brakes, etc.) and get a manual.

An even better car is the 1990-94 Protege LX with the same motor - nicer interior if you want to keep the 4 door but otherwise get a Miata.

Yeah the car only has 96,000 original miles right now. I would love to sell it and find a GT. Or the protege. That may be a project i will look into doing in the future. Thanks for your input.
