Official Gen One MS3 CBE Thread!!

1 Attachment(s)
Updated 2/2015 by @Inquisitive; with more current information.

Mufflers / Silencers are expensive and offer the least bang for buck when compared with the HP gains to costs of (from highest to lowest) N2O, BT plus MAP, TP / RP, WMI, SRI / TIP, DP, Camshaft, IC, PNP, EM and IM. Having said that, a straight muffler / silencer delete is the least chosen option below. However, more members have deleted their resonators than have purchased ABEs or the majority of CBEs (barring the top two). CBE and ABE are mainly about the sound and partially the looks (4” Tips?). If you do not have a lot of HP, perhaps you can bluff your way with loudness.

For guidance, decide upon a fast cat or not depending upon your emissions inspections and choose either a TP / RP (cat-2 delete) or DP (cat-1 delete) first for more power. That will provide a lower frequency tone, which is a bit louder. If you didn’t purchase a Long / Full DP with fast cat, then you need to decide on a second cat (cat-2) delete via a Test / Race / Track Pipe, which also adds sound level volume and adds more power through less exhaust restriction. “The increased exhaust flow will move the detonation threshold up and creates enough VE to allow for slightly higher boost targets.” (Cobb) However, running completely cat-less can create severe boost spikes as well as over boost conditions. Do not restrict your future BT decisions by going less than 3” if you decide to continue with a CBE with resonator delete. You must decide on your drone tolerance level, which is why the above progression is proposed.

Installed the Corksport Turbo back Exhaust system on my '07 MS3 but the o2 sensors were pretty much welded into place, and when attempting to remove them they pretty much shattered. I was hoping to find out if a new wide-band o2 sensor would be better if I plan on getting it tuned, and where would be the best place to get an inexpensive o2 sensor.

I just want some feedback about the CNT catback ?

- Is it drone ?
- How much louder than OEM ?
- Much bubly than the oem (subaru like)
- Is it much louder than OEM at 3000rpm at 60mph on highway ?
- Do you have an idea to put the tip straight instead than 30 degree angle

1. A little, but not half as much as my straight piped exhaust did.
2. Idle=very quiet
2-2.5k cruise= pretty quiet, no real drone.
3k cruise= only a tiny bit more drone than stock
wot= Racecar
3. Yes
4. See #3
5. Cut and weld

Not really.

Its the tip the creates the angle, not the hanger.

Im sure that an exhaust shop could cut it and weld in back on straight for pretty cheap.

I hesitated between CNT and Corksport ...

because I want the one who has the more deeper sound, bublier (no drone) , and close enough quiet comparable at the oem.

which one you take ?

IMO Racing Beat FTW. Really love the sound in the vid. Mine is getting installed at this moment. Didn't like the twin tips though, so I ordered the single tip version.

I'll post pics in the next few days.

^^ Buy the CNT.

Save money.

You're way over thinking this.

Yes I have it (Full TBE, catted)

It is less drone over stock.

At idle it is silent.

At WOT, it is sex.

That is all.

smoogs12 09-14-2012 09:20 AM

^ ^Agreed.

You are putting way too much thought into something that is should be a relatively simple choice.
