Haven't had the issue yet, would be a pain in the ass to stock out for this vvt repair.

crazyp 01-12-2012 07:28 PM

nice, wonder if theyll do my car if I ever get the vvt noise

You at least can get your money back on the parts

JacksonMS30 01-12-2012 08:00 PM

You think they'd notice that my turbo is a little swollen?

Raider 01-12-2012 08:05 PM

We had it done out of their warranty scope. I'll call tomorrow, find out what maintenance receipts they want.

ScarMS3 01-12-2012 08:10 PM

So this would require a stock out for sure right? Seems like less of a hassle to just let them do it at cost.

I can haz another extension past 100K?????

BobbleHead 01-13-2012 08:18 AM

damn 80,000 miles. My VVt doesn't make noise though and my turbo hasn't smoked since I raised my idle.

Raider 01-13-2012 08:37 AM

I am on the phone with Mazda right now.

Raider 01-13-2012 09:01 AM

If you were over 70,000 when the VVT failed or was replaced, there is NO REFUND.

That said, I say stock out with your cock out if you got the problem, and get it fixed for free. Do it while you can. If you fall under the VIN and mileage, check the VVT for the rattle. Cold start with hood up and listen for it to do this:

If it does that sound, stock out, collect oil change receipts, and go in.

For the turbo, just let it idle 20 minutes. See miles a fucking smoke come out like a steam engine, stock out and go in.

Fucking 14,000 miles too far for a fucking refund. Oh well.

abiezerf 01-13-2012 09:08 AM

Damn, I wish we wouldn't have to stock out, since it isn't the mods fault the turbo breaks. Damnit!

it says produced from XX not sold on XX. thats why it has your build date on the door sticker right?

Chimmike 01-13-2012 02:56 PM

MOTHERFUCK. I did the repair myself, and just hit 70k miles. Did the repair probably 5k miles ago :/

BobbleHead 01-13-2012 06:47 PM

@Raider

thanks for checking. I don't have VVT rattle on cold starts but occasionally I have smoke from my exhaust. Although it hasn't since i got my AP.

RidenDirty 01-13-2012 07:35 PM

So excited about this cause I dont have to come out of pocket the $1k I was told it would cost me and I get a new turbo too....double win!!! And all this because Mazda is too cheap to put in a $5 tensioner in the design.

Take your oil cap off and reach in and see if your timing chain is loose..thats how we found mine, I dont have noise yet but the chain is noticeably loose it could start making noises at any time.

boostedms3 01-17-2012 11:46 PM

i got an 08.5 with 76k, no luck for me???

anywayz im going to dealership 2moro, fuck them im wanna quick smoking!!!

thomas_cory2000 01-18-2012 01:21 AM

FML...I think I had mine done @ like 71k miles, I'll have to check my pp work.

The affected vehicles are tracked by build date, but the warranty is in effect from the warranty start date, which is the date it was sold and left the lot.

Tappin

What's this 5 dollar tensioner of which you speak?
And checking the chain for slack needs to be done with the engine at operating temp.
The chain tensioner is oil pressure actuated.
No oil pressure, no tension.

timjs 01-18-2012 05:58 AM

Got one of you freeloaders in my bay right now.

It's so obvious when you guys stock out. You leave things loose...bolts have markings on them that indicate they have been tampered with...Mode 6 data in the PCM isnt filled, incomplete monitor flags..

Not that I give a shit because I'm making my 4 hours either way.
It's just funny, the stories people come up with to protect their warranty coverage.

He might be talking about a little chain guide that most engines have between the cam gears. One could easily be bolted to the oil control valve and keep the timing chain from slapping the valve cover.

Actually, the VVT comes out of adjustment, causing the problem. It is not just a loose chain issue.

And for anyone over 70K, you are SOL, period. Got it fixed or reported before then to the dealer? You have a chance. Otherwise...

My issue is that this chain problem happens stock or modded, and really needs to have a longer coverage period, as most have surpassed that extension. Obviously Mazda knows this, and is just making sure that they do not have to cover the majority of the cars.

tjamison 01-18-2012 06:16 AM

I'm going to get my 07 MS3 to the local (45 minutes away) Mazda dealer early next week. The VVT is obvious, but I hope they don't give me too much hassle on the smoke - It's not as bad as some I've seen, but worse than most. I bought the car a month ago, so I don't have a stack of service receipts. I'm interested if they'll give it the ventilation kit or turbo. Funny that I got an aftermarket warranty, but won't even have to use it on these major items. I'm sure something worthy will come up in the next 45K miles.

Raider 01-18-2012 06:31 AM

The ventilation kit is as useful as a gallon of gas in the tank. It makes no difference, IMO.

Go get an OCC after they replace the turbo. Collect the shit before it fucks the turbo up.

The VVT is shit, and needs a real recall or something. A bullshit extension like that is a slap in the face. 6/100K is logical to the consumer, but hurts their bottom line.

And @timjs, calling someone getting an obvious defect fixed is not a freeloader. In fact, it is probably @RidenDirty's MS6 he bought used and has all those problems. Bet you work at Mazda City. That is where the Regional Dickhead Manager said the turbo turning glowing orange during normal driving, as well as smoke out the pipe after turbo replacement, was normal.

What?
It's funny how people on this forum can talk like an asshole yet get offended over the word freeloader. Chill out dude, grow thicker skin.

I have no comments about the regional manager, sir.

Raider 01-18-2012 10:35 AM

I'm far from offended. Trust me it takes a lot to offend me.

I've been to Mazda City and seen the work you guys do. Just fix Gene's car so it wont blow up ok?

timjs 01-18-2012 10:40 AM

Oh, wait wait now I'm not referring to Gene. He is a good guy, hence why we got him in there soon so he doesn't have to wait in line to get a new chain.
We have several chains lined up at the moment.

No offence to Gene at all, I just want to make that clear.

And don't worry, I've done enough of these damn chains to write a book about it.

I am interested in what experiences you have had at the dealer though.
I can't help but to assume it was something that went wrong dealing with our old service manager. We have a new manager, and he's a really good guy. He even drives a Speed3 himself, and is looking to mod it.

If you wouldn't mind telling me what bad experiences you've seen or had, please PM me. If not, that's cool. I understand a lot of people were turned off of our dealer due to the management. If it was a technician related thing, it would be nice to not put anyone's name out there.

Raider 01-18-2012 10:49 AM

CX-7 had turbo replaced in Orlando. On way home, got gas, smelled burning. Popped hood, turbo was glowing neon orange after sitting for a few minutes. Took it to you guys, and according to the sniffer, all is well, so you refused to inspect the downpipe for any blockage, even though the O2 was replaced due to it being oil coated, and smoke still being visible at idle. Regional Disckhead Manager threatened to void my powertrain over the "pop off valve"

Still get some smoke after idling a while, 40K miles later. Oil Catch Can was completely full when drained this weekend. Yeah. Fuck the Mazda PCV.

When was this if I may ask?

And yes, the PCV system sucks. I had the smoking problem BAD on my speed6...an oil restrictor bolt fixed mine. (I honestly believe the turbo is WAY over oiled, but everyone here knows that).

Once again, I can't comment on our DSM because I do not know who above me trolls this site.

Tokay444 01-18-2012 11:06 AM

I had a technician adamantly tell me our turbos were NOT water cooled.

lildudeinacar 01-18-2012 03:43 PM

I got 3 letters in the mail for me, The wiper motor recall, the VVT and the turbo replacement. After watching the VVT video, mine dont sound like that, it sounds close to getting to that point but not like the video, and its been about 20ish for the past 3 days here. and my turbo doesnt smoke but maybe i could sweet talk them into doing all 3 and be done with it... Ha yeah right

blkspeed307 01-18-2012 05:07 PM

I called Mazda corporate gave them my vin # was told there is only a warranty extension on the vvt & not the turbo & its only up to 6yrs or 70,000 miles . But I'm waiting to get my letter in the mail.

Raider 01-18-2012 05:08 PM

If you fall under the 84 month 70K miles, great. IF not. Go find a couch, and have intercourse with it.
