(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score I'm fairly certain the 2013 ST uses the cylinder head with the integral exhaust manifold. This is shown in the manual which has been posted. There are pics of a version of the engine shown in 2011 showing an external exhaust manifold. I'm not sure if this is only a prototype. I have also read in other forums the cylinder head is different depending on the car model. The integral exhaust manifold makes it difficult for porting and designing a custom exhaust manifold for larger turbos. Any information is appreciated.

(Thread Starter) | Not Ranked : 0 score Thanks, I'll be patient. I'm not sure I understand Ford's thinking with the stock cylinder head and the integrated exhaust manifold. The way I understand the theory the exhaust gas energy should try and be conserved between the exhaust valve and the turbo inlet. This means keeping the velocity and temperature optimum. The integrated head rejects heat into the cooling system. There are other discussions about the ST turbo having a special coating to withstand higher temps and then the head design appears to go in a different direction. I'd think the exhaust manifold should be insullated to reduce heat loss. I thought the manifold on the prototype motor looked neat because it appeared to be modular and possibly insullated. Ford spent a lot of money making this motor efficient, I must be missing something!

| Not Ranked : 0 score I think we're missing the requisite, "donate brownie faggot" in this thread. A turbo as small as the st's is already a flame thrower for your 20 seconds of over boost. Keeping the exhaust gasses as cool as possible, for it, is essential to it's longevity.

| Not Ranked : 0 score Swapping heads is quite the bolt on upgrade - there's something in between there still using the OEM head and bolting on a larger turbo. A 2871 would be ideal.
