Raspi B v2

TLDR: Quad core, 1 gig ram, same capabilities/form factor as B+. Once they hit Amazon I'll order a couple to play with. Also will be able to run Windows 10 (Per microsoft) AND modern variants of Android.

You'd be better off using this as a single disk NAS:

Has an integrated SATA port.

I can think of a ton of uses for the v2 though.

We've already got this guy planned for some embedded projects. It is a lot more capable than previous pi's and lightyears past Gumstix. This guy should be able to handle some decent video processing.

There is an Israeli company offering a really nice quad core snapdragon 1.7 ghz in an industrial package (-20 to +60) with Linux and Android distros. Lot pricier, but basically deployable as is.

Encoding or decoding? If encoding, what codecs? Right now I use a whole lot of cores from a dual socket opteron box to do x264 with Handbrake, but they are kind of weak compared to the intels.

The regular b version does realtime playback AND recording to a network share at the same time without issue...all encoded in raw h264.

I don't recall what settings I used, but it was probably 2.5 mb/sec for this test video, and auto chroma was enabled:

Interesting. So a good candidate for a PVR.

I've been considering picking up one of these cubox-i systems: CuBox-i -Mini Computer, XBMC player, Android TV Box | Specifications

I've also have a gigabyte BRIX that I built. Its the most recent celeron version but it has some extra power for deinterlacing compared to the celeron version of the NUC. It also has WiFi/BT built in. Using it for Kodi and a news/SNES/genesis/N64 emulator with dualshock 3 controllers.

I have a vesa mount B that I mounted to the back of a 7" monitor (had to custom make spacers from aluminum tube but that was easy), and also hooked up a 12v D size battery pack that ran both the pi and the monitor...until the monitor died out and had to be replaced. I also have a Pi camera that has no IR filter on it. Gonna see what I can get it to do at some point, would be pretty awesome to be able to go dark while driving.

Anything relating infrared, optics, software recognition, processing etc etc etc.


I used it to make a big ass IR-based touchscreen table years ago, but the technology and the software is highly adaptable to whatever you'd like to make using a camera without an IR filter and a RPI

Application is more for driving under IR; bigass LED array combined with no IR filter raspi camera (which I already have) = driving around in the dark but able to see just fine.

At well over 10x the cost... Probably be fine for a carputer setup, but won't be able to do what I need for camera shit.

ah I was just treating this thread as one for bad ass ultra small computers. the NUCs are sweet, especially with DDR3-1866 and a SATA or PCIE SSD.

My two came in today; with only autologin and auto run of raspivid, I go from power applied to camera streaming in 16 seconds. Not a whole lot of optimization being done to the boot process.

Good shit, and WAY more acceptable than 45 seconds to boot to the same place.

Just ordered mine... Going toove my server to the new one, and make a PVR out of my old one. Maybe a camera. Haven't decided.
