Default AEM failsafe configuration

Had some time to tinker with and get this failsafe configured and tested. Cheap insurance for all the big power cars running a lot of meth or PI systems.

installed this on one of our nator tn/ky member's car. ive got one sitting on the shelf at the house ready to go in. dumb to spend all this money on builds and not have something like this. to justin once again!

ive been trying to find some time to fab up a mounting bracket to make the addition EBCS and Hobbs switch look nice. havent had time with all the prep for ENM@MDC. i zip tied them all to the brake lines behind the battery box. still can access the hobbs switch and if you take your time can make it look pretty nice.

how would something like this play with/compare to a guardian angel?

If you already have a guardian angel, that has an input signal wire. You simply attach the aem signal wire to that and you dont need the 3port.

For anyone else interesting in this gauge. I hooked it up using a 24V 20A SPST NC relay. Spliced the relay into the EBCS so when the failsafe is triggered it opens the wastegates.

It's a good idea to use the relay, but I'd personally recommend the use of a solid state relay as opposed to a mechanical relay. The reason I recommend the solid state relay over the mechanical relay is because the EBCS is controlled via a PWM signal and this will wear out the relay fast as it's turning on and off at such high rates.

This thing is fucking brilliant, especially for this platform that needs Aux fueling to haul ass.

I decided against the relay for simplicity. The mac 3port is only .45 amp draw, and the AEM can be used up to 1.5 amp. This thing will not be triggering frequently, and only in an emergency situation, so there should be no harm by running without a relay, or even a mechanical relay.

You can add a variable hobbs switch all the way to 120psi if desired. So sky is the limit with over boost

New pic of the setup thanks to a friend

Does the Gauge itself need a boost source hooked up for it's display/reading

Yes it does. Sorry, forgot to add that to the drawing

Edit: I already had a boost gauge and my meth controller in the car, so I just tee'd right off that line in the cabin for the AEM.

I have my BPV line tee'd off for 3port ebcs and another one along the line for meth controller, i think i may have to tap the silicone joiner of the FMIC hot side and re-route some shit or i will get mixed up what the fuck is going to where lol

sounds like you would be a good candidate for using a vac/boost distribution block

How is this really implemented with aux fueling? Just by monitoring the AFR's? So this is more reactionary than preventative? Wished AEM had this in an AIO package with the meth failsafe.

I have one for some time now just connected to the 02 sensor reading AFR. I didn't connect any other wires besides ground of course. @Justin@Freektune; I read your article. Great information. Should I have my settings like ours or waiting on my tuning results?

Edit: I fail at reading.

Justin, I have to ask....what's the highest meth concentration you have run through the system? I had one (actually AEM sent me 4 replacement flow sensors) and they would not handle 100% meth. One full pull and they were melted/locked up with zero flow reported.

I went round and round with AEM support...eventually they arranged for me to get my money back from Jegs. I was very disappointed as this was my last shot at a flow sensor and failsafe for my setup. May try a pump current drwa type like CM has.

Not a drop of meth runs though this. It's AFR/boost based.

It goes lean...it triggers the bpv with the setup Justin made

Should be an end all for the flow gauge problems. I plan to use it on my 5858 build using lots o meth. Installed it on a 6th port car a few weeks ago too.

how fast does it react to the AFR trigger? I need a new boost gauge so this may be 2 rocks with 1 bird...or wait...2 rocks with 1 whore...or shit..2 birds with 1 whore...I give up.

How tall is the o2 sensor?

Seems to react quick.
You can set the about of time the o2 has to be out of the threshold before it is triggered.
I think default is 500 milliseconds. This is incase the o2 reads 1 cell out of target it doesn't cut the system.
o2 height seemed standard not sure if I can get behind my turbo enough to measure for you but I'll try.

Default is 500 milliseconds, and you can have it trigger faster than that if you want. You don't want it too fast or too tight of a window or you won't be able to FFS when racing.

So this would be a better choice the. The snow safe inject system since it runs off afr instead of flow sensor? I am only running 50/50 meth since 100% is hard to come by around where I live and This car is my dd.

I'm thinking about doing this. However, I have a couple of questions to those who have this.

Can you run AFR on the digital and Boost on the analog and vice versa? By the looks of the software it looks like you can, but didn't want to spend $300 to find out that's not true.

Also, how high does boost pressure read on the digital? Looks like the face is capped at 30psi.

Yes you can swap the digital vs analog for boost or afr.

Gauge only reads to 30psi
