christ I can't believe after all of these years you STILL need to port the IWG on the ATP hotside.

It is very interesting to compare the response of this turbo versus the GTX2867. You can see that below 4100 RPM or so the larger turbo lags behind the smaller one in terms of response. Beyond that the larger turbo pulls ahead.

Depending on how the powerband is used and car is driven you can clearly see which is the better choice. The maximum torque reached by both is close in terms of absolute numbers but where the torque is made and how far it is carried in the powerband is what sets them apart.

Thanks for the comparisons!

The gtx2867, gt2871, and BNR are probably the best fit for these cars out of the box. They truly are great turbos and the spool on them is fantastic. The 3076 still spools fast on the street but you can see the difference in lag.

The top end of this gtx3076 is truly awesome though. Once you get put in your seat. This thing pulls HARD up top.

It's .63 A/R great for spool which is a double edge sword. I can get it to spool so fast it surge which is 20psi before 3200 rpms. Soooo auto x this is not the turbo. Bit on the street it's fun and at the quarter it should also do really good. Probably a low 11 turbo with ATP trim and Mazda flange

Well this came out of nowhere. Lol. Nice work buddy!

Did you happen to notice if the "crescent" shaped obstruction was present in your IWG passage? My 3071 I got recently from ATP looks like it's been revised from the previous versions. Just wondering if yours was too.

Do you think it would be possible to cut down that surge (20 at 3200) with (more) porting on the intake mani and head?

Could you spool it that fast with a larger hotside and a 4 port?

The compressor is relatively large compared to the smaller .63 hotside and this is why you can get into some surge trouble with this turbo. You will generate enough boost and more flow than the motor can take to put you on the far left side of the map via the small exhaust hotside.

If you increase the flow through the motor you will reduce surge and if you increase the flow through the exhaust hotside you will spool slower again avoiding surge. Or you can use a smaller compressor.

By increase flow though the motor you mean on the intake side? I assume his intake manifold is ported as I know his head is ported. Is this what you are saying would help? ie: it would be worse without these items?

The intake manifold itself I don't think is the issue. The colder temps and the very free flowing exhaust is what can make it surge. So instead of running 100% wgdc at 3k, I just run 50 which does the trick on my car. That makes the turbo spool just enough slower that there is no surge.

On the 2867 I could run full tilt down low and have 20+ psi by 2900 rpms and it would just roll the tires off. Lol.

This turbo seems to want to spin the tires less (although winter and roads suck) but has a lot more punch up top. Still a great turbo to dd on, you just need to pay a little closer to your rpms and the gear you're in before roll racing

Yeah Im having terrible wheel spin issues with the winter roads and still running 205 winter tires as I try and tune here. Cant wait to get something sticky on the corners and see what happens.

How well are you putting IDC in check with the D14 nozzle? Is the three inch intake still in place?

IDC at 27psi is just under 100 and 30psi is just over 100. I am running a Cpe maf housing now and still running the HTP 3" TIP. I hit maf cut twice on the sure maf housing which was good for just about 500hp.

In shop temp is a pretty consistent 69* throughout the winter so on the street in the colder weather right now the car is making about 500 at 27psi.

That cresent was clearly there and needed to be removed. Once it was removed boost control was perfect.

Nice!

I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed it wasn't there in my GTX3071R. I remember cld12pk porting his, and knew they must had revised it.

I know most of us are working with some kind of budget in most of the stuff we do to are cars and you are no exception as you have gradually worked your way into where your car is now. I just keep thinking about what the flow numbers would have been on the head if you would have flowed it!!! It looks like a nice 45-50 HP gain at very similar boost comparing the 28 to the 3076. Large hot side doing work. You took a small hit in spool but with the small A/R the overall power gains both in torque and HP you can't beat that. Hell even with a K04 most roll racing starts at 3800 rpm or higher!!! Your build is a lot of inspiration my man.

Thanks man. I've always been the type to see what you can make on a budget. So it just shows you don't need a 20k build to make silly power and keep it reliable

Unfortunately that is the issue with higher compression and a boosted engine. You need very high octane to push things along.

What size nozzles are you running? Have you tried m1 methanol rather than m5? Also what Afr are you targeting?

On my car with the d14 and 93 I get no kr even at 30psi

Justin have you considered the diesel gearbox to take better advantage of the peak power?

I noticed when I roll raced a stock coyote (which I walked comfortably) that the disparity in shift points versus most V8s puts us either at a distinct advantage or disadvantage. Most of them will hit ~64mph in 2nd gear, making a 50 roll our sweet spot and too low of RPM for them, just as a 2nd gear roll leaves us sucking hind tit out of comfortable spool range in 3rd.

My rolls vs a tuned/intake/exhaust 5.0 pretty much confirmed what already made sense on paper. His 2nd gear vs my shallow 3rd gear pull left me sucking wind, while the 50mph roll kept me uncomfortably close for a corn tuned K04.

It seems we'd benefit a great deal from taller gears, and I really can't fathom why Mazda decided to neuter 1st and 2nd instead of stretch out our legs.

TBH I would not consider that trans in my car. That gearing is VERY tall.

At the moment i am targeting 11.2 afr at around 1.5 load ,2500rpm, 100% m5 meth with AEM 2 medium size nozzles, pretty sure spark plugs are old. already ordered new itv24's going to swap does make sure they are gap at .024 and add m1.

I don't know anything about the two pieces, but does anyone know if the ST transmission is at all compatible with the MS3? They can hit 60 in 2nd gear...then again I believe they also rev higher as well.

Did you ever get a chance to tear down the original motor and examine it?
