From OTS + to Full FREEKTUNE

I was going to rock the OTS+ for a while, until I got my CS turbo. But, the mod bug bit again.

I got used to the power so damn fast and got that itch. So, I decided to go bigger intake and full tune, since It was in my budget. I got a Corksport Power Series 3" intake in and ordered the upgrade tune from @Justin@Freektune;.

Installed the intake yesterday. It sure took some finagling the OEM battery box to get that thing in there. Even with the CS install instructions the OEM battery box is a BEOTCH to get back in. I had to elongate the screw holes, in the end. I have the CS ECU relocation battery box on the way. Not happy with the new intake being crowded.

With all that said, I got my pro base tune from Justin today. Got home from work, found it in my email and installed it. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, as I have a preggers wife who's about to pop any day. I am sure she'd kill me, if I went back out. LOL. :)

I will head out for a run or two tomorrow and try to get my 3 logs that Justin needs for the first revision. I'll keep you all posted.

I was slummin' it on a Cob Stage 2 91 OTS with a maf cal for a bit on the new intake. LOL what a joke. I may post up that log and vdyno, for Schnitzen Giggles.

Stay Tuned

ToyCop 02-22-2016 09:23 PM

I bought the CS battery box after I went with the the same intake. When I get my race pipe, I too, will be going with a full tune.

Atticaz 02-23-2016 11:08 AM

My logs will have to wait a bit. The baby is coming. On the way to the hospital!!! Woooo!!! Excited!!!

ToyCop 02-23-2016 02:07 PM

Congratulations! Mine are all grown now.

Boubou22 02-23-2016 03:42 PM

I'm in for the result of the full tune

Omega 02-23-2016 03:59 PM

Congratulations on the new addition!

You will not regret the tuning choice, I at first went with an OTS+ and was not satisfied with the powerband... The pro tune feels quite a bit different and is fantastic, can't wait until my E33 tune is finished!

here is my 2nd revision full freektune BNR s3 vdyno. @Justin@Freektune; does great work..this is my 3rd tune purchased from him.

Castillo817 02-25-2016 08:14 AM

Nice numbers man.
I'm getting tuned for the same turbo by him. He sure does some magic :)

Atticaz 02-25-2016 08:27 AM

Yes. Great numbers man!! I still have not been able to get my first logs done, as I have not driven the required miles. We have been driving the wife's car and we are at the hospital. Wife was induced and just gave birth to our very first baby boy, last night. :) :) :)

wes3id 02-25-2016 08:29 AM

Congrats!

Ok. Managed to get in a 3rd gear WOT log, while I was at home to grab some stuff for my wife and feed the pets.

This is the 1st Base Map WOT log and vdyno, to show power and stats. I still need to get my required logs to Justin. More to come as soon as I get my MAF cal/1st revision.

First impression... So damn soooooth. I feel that just this Base Map is a giant improvement over the OTS+.

Just got my required logs off to @Justin@Freektune;. Super excited for the 1st revision. It was a bit warmer out, this run. So, numbers were a bit lower. But, this IS just the base map.

I am digging the feel of this car!!

Just for documentation purposes... VDYNO of progression, with logs.

-Cobb OTS Stage2 I scaled for the 3" intake prior to Freektune Base Map.
-Freektune base map 4th gear WOT, after 30 miles.
-Freektune 1st revision map 4th gear WOT, prior to 30 miles.

Looks like my first run above @274 was due to a cooler day and lower BATS.

ihasmazda 03-04-2016 10:16 AM

congrats on the kid, mine is 2 weeks old. god i'm tired. lol.
love the freek. all i can say is the freek BASE map felt better than cobb stage2 ots. the power comes on so much nicer it's beyond explanation, just has to be felt!

Thanks. Yeah I am exhausted. LOL. He is a week and 2 days now. :) The exhaustion is worth it.

I can not wait for my next Revision. This first one was a MAF cal and Boost table tweaks. Anxious to see what the next outcome is. :)

From OTS + to Full FREEKTUNE

My next set of datalogs are off to @Justin@Freektune;, just now. It's getting warmer here in AZ. So, I will do a WOT log right before I load the next revision and then after its loaded.

My very first Vdyno, on the Base Map (above) was done on a very cool morning. Wish it was still that cool out, than with my 1st revision run. I'm getting high 240's - low 250's now.

I will probably go back to the base map, do a log and reload the 1st revision and do a log, to get an more accurate comparison between the two soon.

Pretty sure I need to get a FMIC stat.

McD_nasty 03-06-2016 05:18 AM

I'm in the same boat. Just got the OTS+ map but also about to buy a bigger tmic so a full tune will be next. My buddy with an ST is also about to get fully freeked. I can't let him win.

2nd Revision after 3.5" JBR intake install. 4th gear pull 78* ambient temp. will update after next map.

Just got my second revision. Here is my very 1st WOT Log and vDyno graph, right after loading it. Ambient temp was reading 79*.

Is it the high BAT's killing my numbers? Shouldn't I be showing higher with my mods? I am not looking to break any records. But, I thought I would see higher numbers.

EDIT: I think that's the case. Looks like my BATs were 27* lower on the Base Map WOT pull.

Car feels like a rocket now. My butt Dyno really feels the added power, with every revision. The vDyno numbers just really got me down though. I guess I just want to "see" the improvements and heat is killing it for me. I wish getting real Dyno pulls didn't cost so much. I'll probably wait til my tune is complete and get a real reading done.

Also, I will probably find a day to revert to Base Map, do a log, 1st rev, do a log, 2nd, 3rd etc. all on same day on a cooler morning. We shall see.

PurplFox 03-10-2016 06:49 AM

This is all on just gas no E right. looks pretty good.

iamareios 03-11-2016 08:51 AM

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a full tune from justin or not. I have been tuned by him probably 3 separate times now. Once for 91 and a e33 blend. Recently i added a larger intake and had a re-tune for 91. I'm pretty much dialed in with the OTS+ tune fully bolted on stock k04 making 272hp on vdyno. What do you guys think? Can the full tune really squeeze more out or make drivability better?

I can say that on my OTS+ my car was smooth as hell. I am on my 2nd revision full tune and wow. My drive to work, today was great. One of the smoothest rides in rush hour I have ever experienced in this car, minus the normal stock PMM characteristics on low gears, from all the torque. Sending off my logs for the 3rd revision tonight.

I really wish it was still cool out so I can see the kinda numbers I got on my very first Base Map pull. Arizona heat is a power killer.

I am going front mount soon. Then I will get a retune... Or a touch up. However, that works.

It's stuff like this that makes me wanna get the full tune. I just got my revision loaded up last night and wow the car feels like it's on steroids now compared to stock. I'm moving back to Cali soon so an e blend is definitely gonna be in the mix to compensate for the 91 I'm gonna be forced to use.

The 91 is complete garbage here in CA. He originally advanced timing a degree for me and damn the car felt amazing. But by the 4th revision it was knocking due to bad gas and we removed a degree of timing. Sad times because it felt much more drivable. Right now im at a target boost of 20.5psi and the damn k04 spools fast after the jbr ebcs.

on my e33 blend tune i was hitting 302hp on vdyno before the bigger htp intake and new ebcs. e85 is god sent with the crappy fuel we have here. I highly recommend it.

I'll be upgrading my EBCS when I install my FMIC. All to set up for a CS turbo, in the near future.

The ebcs didnt really do much other than smooth the boost curve. It hits target boost faster i think too. I only replaced mine because i broke the cheap plastic stock one during my bigger intake install :smashfreakB:

That's good to know. I'll probably buy it and hold it til the CS snail goes in then. I like to buy piece by piece. Makes purchase feel less wallet-draining.... Even though it's not. Lol.

Badass man. Great numbers. Just got my 3rd revision Friday. Will be doing and sending off my logs tonight.

Did this vdyno camparison from the time I was running Cobb OTS thru FREEKTUNE base, 1st and 2nd revisions. Didn't get 3rd revision logs done yet.

The days have been getting warmer. But still some good gains. Can't wait for the next.

I'm just about ready to buy a BNR S4. The turbo fund has almost reached its goal. I can't wait to get my first full freek tune from Justin. Then some e85 magic.

3rd revision log and vdyno from this morning. The bit of timing advance in the top end brought the peak power further out in the RPM range. Feels great. Also, pulls are hard and silky smooth.

In my 4 revision, the car started having a bit too much KR. So, we reverted back to revision 3. I just got revision 5 Tuesday and have been crazy busy with the new baby. But, I finally got my logs done and sent off.

Here is my last one, I pulled. We had a decently cool day, yesterday.

Just scored a used, but in excellent condition Corksport FMIC and am going to pick up my FMIC pipes from being powdercoated, today. Wooooooooo!!

After this tune is done, I will install it and get a touchup tune. :)

Omega 03-31-2016 11:23 AM

I'm sure you'll enjoy the FMIC, I love my CS FMIC on the 6 especially as it started warming up lately the car still feels great. Everything is looking good, you should think about e85, feels fantastic :).

Told you that the full tune quite a bit different, feels much smoother! Glad you're enjoying your decision.

I'm still not quite onboard with the E train, until I read up more on it. I am more of a no hassle, fill her up and go guy.

Regarding the IC. I was gonna got TR8. But then found the CS on my local NATOR page for only $150. It's basically a TR6. Got CX piping for $130 and powdercoated the upper pipes flat black.

Can't wait to install.
