Default Boost Tune to Hybrid TUne

Hi All,

I have a boost tune, which was dialed in during the winter here (Melbourne Australia, so we get temps ~3-5c).

Doing some reading, I am interested in adjusting the tune into a Hybrid tune.

My understanding is (from reading the ATR guides), that I can do some WOT logs in each gear, use the calculated load, add 0.5 and use that value to update the appropriate load value in the TRL load table.

I have a couple questions for some who have successfully done this:
- Is the above understanding correct?
- Does it matter what temps the WOT logs are taken in? i.e am i better off waiting to take them on a warm day (~30c) or is it better to use a cold evening (~10c)
- Is there anything else I should be looking to complete for the tune?

Cheers,
David

- Start a fresh boost based tune with load targets out of reach 3.00 load.
- Set wgdc to 0 to start.
- Zero out underboost side of boost error comp table (leave overboost side populated).
- Zero out load error comp tables (Fine and Coarse).
- Dial in your maf curve.
- Raise wgdc to meet boost targets.
- Finalize the Maf curve from hitting higher boost and interpolate maf voltage's that are not reached.
- Reduce wgdc table about 10-15% and repopulate underboost side of boost error comp table.
- Populate load tables with load values seen in latest log. (usually 0.05 load higher to take advantage of cooler temps).
- Leave 'Calc Load Max A and B' tables at 5.00 load, all other load tables should be set the same.
- Populate the over load side of the load error comp tables (Fine and Coarse) with stage 0 values to start.
- Set 'DBW Throttle A-C' tables to 80% max, any higher than 90% will prevent throttle closure (setting them closer to 75% will allow more throttle closure).

If you are on the k04, it should work very well in limiting load.

If you have a bigger turbo it may be more difficult. I am currently having issues limiting load due to boost creep in near freezing temps. The ECU will bring the wgdc down to 0 and reduce the throttle in an attempt to cap the load. If you have boost creep, the ECU can only do so much, and limiting load becomes an issue. I'm going to port out my waste gate on the turbine housing to alleviate this boost creep.

Hope that helps!

Not sure what would be easier...flipping your boost tune or starting with a fresh load tune.

And I highly recommend setting load targets in cold temps to prevent overload. Fine tune your WGDC table on a hot day to prevent overboosting.

Forgive me, for I am illiterate. Missed that you're asking about hybrid, not a load tune.

Thanks for the detailed response.
I am just curious, is there a reason i should be starting a completely fresh tune?
The reason I ask i my MAF calibration, boost targets and WOT AFR's are nicely dialed in (which took quite a few iterations), so it would be a waste to start again if unnecessary.

Also, does the procedure you have provided need to be completed in a particular ambient condition? (i.e. am i better completing it in summer temps?)

Cheers,
David

Good point if you've got AFR and boost dialed in nicely, then you should be good to go. In terms of ambient temps, I find that tuning in the summer is better because you will hit less load in warmer temps, and when winter comes around, it will cap that same load, although you may have to touch up the upper part of the maf curve when colder temps arrive as you may flow more air that you were not flowing in the warmer temps. Also, tuning in summer gives you an idea of the knock threshold with high iat's, although in very cold temps, the increased cylinder pressure can actually cause knock from what I've seen with my car.
