Default How to get rid of a P0421 CEL...?

How do you non-catted guys get away with not having cels?
I think I read some where that you can use a plug defouler or something like that...?

Thanks!!

deal with it. it does not hurt the car at all. Just wait for ap. I have turbo xs and my cel is on all the time. I don't give a fuck anymore about this car. First the bad turbo seal, now the ecu reflash. Where did my money go?

My corksport downpipe came with a CEL elimintator. It's just an extension the O2 connects to that keeps it out of the direct exhaust stream. Haven't gotten a CEL yet.

did you find out your turbo seal was bad before or after you installed the dp?

Yeah its catted...but I got a DP with one of the older cats that is not resistant to our 1500 exhaust temps... I will be sending it to CP-E for a cat replacement...but in the meantime, I want the damn cel to go away...

I spoke with Ken and he said to get a 18mm sparkplug non-fouler and drill out the inner diameter to fit the O2 tip...that will stop the ECU from triggering the CEL...

I'll be working on that tonight...

OK, misconception here!!!!

DPs do not ruin seals and/or turbos!!!!

The issue is having a defective turbo with bad seals...the stock exhaust hides the problem...eventually leading to smoke even with the stock exhaust later down the road.

Replacing the stock exhaust with a free flowing one will unmask a defective turbo/bad seals due to the lack of the factory catalytic converts which burn off the oil and/or provide enough back pressure to keep the seals from leaking; though they will eventually leak.

To answer your question, I've had my DP since December (of 2007) and I've had (knock on wood) no issues with smoke (approx 9K miles w/DP)... My MS3 was built 09/2007 which some might say was not affected by the bad batch of turbos Mazda got from Hitachi-Warner; mostly the issue have been with 2007s (hit or miss).

I say go for it!! I took the risk knowing that if my turbo leaked oil that I would just screw the warranty claim and just upgrade my turbo to the next level up...a reworked/modified stock turbo that only costs $600 or so...
Better seals, better bearings, lighter weight turbines, etc...increased efficiency up to 21 PSI and 350HP!!!!

I hope this helps...

corksport and turbo xs dp is same diameter as the stock one. It just does not have any cat.

This car has been very very bad for me. Turbo seal bad. Running rich as hell. I missed my srt-4. Fuel pump was only $99 compare to $800.

Are you sure the upgraded DPs are the same size as stock?
When I installed my CP-E DP it was substantially larger than my stocker!!

I also did the non-fouler trick and it works!!!!
I bought a long 18mm spark plug non-fouler and bored out the inner diameter of the non-fouler to match the O2 sensor tip... Works like a charmer...so far.
