Default MAZDASPEED AccessPORT and AccessTUNER Get Big Updates

COBB Tuning is excited to announce new developments for the MAZDASPEED community. The COBB Tuning AccessPORT is the first OEM ECU tuning solution for the 2012 MAZDASPEED3, giving owners of the newest MAZDASPEED3 the same level of power and control enjoyed by previous model year owners. Our AccessTUNER software has also been updated to allow custom tuning by both professional tuners and DIY tuners alike. In addition, all of COBB Tuning has released a huge Off-The-Shelf calibration update, at no additional cost, that includes support for more intakes, improved post-shift performance, and boost targeting logic implemented on all model years of MAZDASPEED3 and MAZDASPEED6! Read on for more details about the work COBB Tuning is doing to make sure the AccessPORT is the most comprehensive tuning solution for MAZDASPEED performance enthusiasts.

2012 MAZDASPEED3 AccessPORT
The MAZDASPEED AccessPORT is now shipping with full 2012 MAZDASPEED3 support, preloaded with Off-The-Shelf maps to get new users up and running with the push of a button. All MAZDASPEED AccessPORTs (AP-MAZ-002) can be updated for free to support the 2012 MAZDASPEED3 with a simple firmware upgrade.

The 2012 MAZDASPEED3 AccessPORT will enable the same Boost Target Logic tuning released earlier this year, as well as have access to the massive database of free Off-The-Shelf maps with support for 13 different intake types and over 160 maps to choose from.

2012 MAZDASPEED3 AccessTUNER
Both AccessTUNER Race and AccessTUNER Pro tuning software packages have been updated to support the 2012 MAZDASPEED3. 2012 MAZDASPEED3 owners can bring their car to a professional tuner for a custom tune to maximize power output. Experienced self-tuners can download a free copy of AccessTUNER Race and make modifications to their own calibrations.

Both software packages have access to our database of Off-The-Shelf maps. These are great starting points for your custom tunes. Existing AccessTUNER users can update their existing software to the latest version following these Step-By-Step Software Update Instructions.

MAZDASPEED Off-The-Shelf Map Updates
All 1st and 2nd Gen MAZDASPEED3 and all MAZDASPEED6 maps have been updated to v2.10 and v2.00, respectively. Now all three platforms are tuned with Boost Target Logic for improved performance and consistency. Every platform now has free Off-The-Shelf maps for 13 different intake configurations, as well as maps for other common modifications, such as; turbo inlet hoses, intercoolers, downpipes and exhausts. Furthermore, these maps also include fixes to eliminate post-shift stutter and post-shift lean conditions some vehicles are experiencing. In all, over 160 maps are available for MAZDASPEED3’s and MAZDASPEED6’s, by far the largest selection of plug-and-play calibrations for the MAZDASPEED direct injection engine!

All AccessPORTs must be updated to firmware 1.6.5.0-2992 or later to utilize these new maps. Follow this Step-By-Step Firmware Update Guide to quickly and easily update the firmware on your AccessPORT. To see the latest maps available for your application, please visit the MAZDASPEED AccessPORT Map Database. Just follow this Step-By-Step Map Download and Transfer Guide to learn how to get a map from our database onto your ECU.

AccessPORT Firmware Update
In addition to 2012 MAZDASPEED3 support, the AP-MAZ-002 firmware receives several feature updates.

Monitors
  • HPFP Desired Pressure and HPFP Sensor Voltage monitors were added to 2007-2012 MAZDASPEED3 and 2006-2007 MAZDASPEED6
  • DI Fuel Pressure was renamed to HPFP Actual Pressure on 2007-2012 MAZDASPEED3 and 2006-2007 MAZDASPEED6
  • Accelerator Pedal Position was added to 2010-2012 MAZDASPEED3
  • The Boost Limit Cap now reads past the factory limit of 22.34psi on 2010-2012 MAZDASPEED3
Follow this Step-By-Step Firmware Update Guide to quickly and easily update the firmware on your AccessPORT.

AccessTUNER Software Updates
In addition to 2012 MAZDASPEED support, both AccessTUNER Race and AccessTUNER Pro receive several new features.

Monitors
The same monitor changes that were implemented in the firmware have also been implemented in AccessTUNER.

Tables
Many table changes were implemented on the 2007-2009 MAZDASPEED3, 2010-2012 MAZDASPEED3 and 2006-2007 MAZDASPEED6. Please see the MAZDASPEED AccessTUNER Release Notes for a full list of changes.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes
All Diagnostic Trouble Codes for each ECU type has been exposed and each has a toggle to enable/disable the DTC. For a full list in AccessTUNER, navigate to Edit > Advanced Parameters > DTC (Base).

Tuning Guide
The Tuning Guide has been revised to version 2.10, and includes the latest tuning strategies for Boost Target Tuning Logic and in-depth table descriptions.

Existing AccessTUNER users can update their existing software to the latest version following these Step-By-Step Software Update Instructions. If you do not have AccessTUNER Race, fill out the form AccessTUNER Race Request Form to receive a download link.

are there any changes to the WGDC table/logic that requires a detune/retune?

any change to the boost targeting logic to give it more "weight" for PID loop correction?

Load correction is almost instant and authoritative whereas boost targeting logic is a bit lazy at times especially with overrun conditions. I realize that we are trying to take an ECU that was born to follow load and teach it a new trick...which may take some time to perfect...just wanted to know if any changes in that area have been made.

thanks for all the hard work!

@David@COBB

since targeting is the current topic of this thread I'll quote my question posted earlier.

can we fix existing issues before we more forward trying to resolve new issues?

it would be nice to get BT logic to actually address overrun conditions like load targeting does. currently you need to cut DC down drastically to get the ECU to follow boost targets which just means the ECU isn't targeting anything and the tuner is manually getting it to target.

I have exposed all the controls that command WGDC when in Boost Based tuning - so there isn't really any other tables or values at play. If you are having overboosting type issues, the best thing you can do is give a larger weight to the overboost side of the WGDC Boost Error comp, and adjusting your WGDC's to start a bit lower.

At this point, it is a refinement of the tune that will give your desired operation.

That's not how these tables work. If it hits a value beyond the bounds of the axes, it will use the closest value on that side of the axes.

I guess I am missing something then. the boost error is ramping up through and past each BEC value yet WGDC is not being altered at all or just very little.

so if I am running 1psi over target [7kpa] the ECU should cut .44 out of DC at each loop iteration yes/no?. I realize this iteration may take quite a few cells esp on a 2010 ECU but even 1K RPM later the DC isn't reduced by .44 if at all.

I'll try some exaggerated values in the overrun portion of BEC...I am talking like -1.xx and see what's what because the -0.xx values do nothing to alter DC on a OE boost control system.

This just to see if the ECU even cares LOL..then if it works I'll dial it in to reduce oscillation.

thanks for the response David!

edit: I would like to add that with some cars my example above does work and DC is cut as the error increases but on some cars and even sometimes on the same car it does not.

Sounds like for the Gen1 MS3's nothing major has changed. More DTC options but nothing that should change how the tune performs.

Sound about right? Want to make sure I am not missing something key here.

Great work Cobb though. Any updates are always appreciated.

Lots of DTC options now. Any reason that there seems to be quite a few turned off by default? All I need is the EGR code....

Also seems as though the precision of some of the values has increased. Many of my AFR tables went from 11.300 to 11.295. Also noticed the speed limiter can be bumped up to 250.0 instead of the previous max of 186.

Those DTC's are the ones programmed into the ECU but not turned on. Some of them vary by region - Australia, Europe, Japan, etc...

I'm running a custom stage1+cs intake/tip v.200 tune... To use the v.210 do I need to customize that from scratch or is there a way to copy from my old tune?

It would be easiest to just open two instances of ATR, one with your custom map loaded, the other with the V2.10 map, then step through each table to see what has been changed (while ignoring those tables you customized).

That's what I'm going to do once I figure out where the changes to fix the post-shift lean conditions were made.

great fucking news.
I havent even touched my AP for almost a year, since my last map was spot on and has been trouble free. Recently, I started getting post-shift sputter. I read in the OP that this was fixed somehow?... Ill be looking into the OTS maps to see if i can incorporate the fix into my tune.

Anyone wanna save me some time and help me figure out what is it that they changed on the maps to "fix" the post shift lean and rich conditions? Im at work so I wont be able to check this out till tonight.

Good timing cobb. Tomorrow theres a test n tune at my local drag strip!

guys that are getting tuned by someone else, you might want to check with your tuner now and in the future before you apply any updates to AP or ATR.

I believe username khopwood also has a thread related to this issue.

All the updates were successful for me.

I've been using ATR for about two years now and feel pretty comfortable street tweaking my own maps, but I decided to load up Cobb's new OTS Stage2+SF+TIH+IC 93 v210. The only thing I did was copy over my MAF tables from my most recent homebrewed map since I pretty much had my LTFT's nailed to +/-2%. I have to say that Cobb has come a long way with their OTS maps. This map runs very well on my car. Not perfect, but pretty strong. KR is minimal also. Part throttle is a little jerky when boost comes on and I'm not sure if that's the CL/OL transition, but other than that it's a pretty good starting point for people with similar mods. Looks like timing can be bumped up a bit on it though compared to what I have been running and they're AFR's a set a little more rich than the 11.7's I was targeting, but it's a good OTS map none-the-less. I did a few logs today, but accidentily hit the wrong button in AP Manager and deleted them off my AP.
