Default Questions about AP tune

I'm going to purchase an AP in the next month or so but have a few concerns. I've seen on the Cobb website that all the stage 1 tunes say nothing about having a TP and all say stock BPV. Is it going to be a problem to run a stage 1 with the TP and Turbosmart BPV? Also, ATR only works on PC's and I have a Mac. I can put windows on the Mac but don't have the money to buy it. Fuck me for being a broke ass college student! So my other question would be if needed would someone be able to tweak a map for me so that I can zoom zoom harder?

Mods in sig. Denso ITV22's are also on their way.

From what I was told by COBB (as well as a few fellow MSFers) is that running a Test/Race Pipe actually makes you a stage 2 since you removed one of the catalytic converters in the exhaust system. Now, if that's the case you need to run a stage 2 tune and would have to upgrade to a HPFP. However, I was just talking to someone who ran a modified stage 1 map using ATR on his stock fuel pump and he had an intake, TIP, and test pipe. As for the BPV, you can use ATR to tweak the OTS map you'd run and be able to have it work with the BPV. Post in the NATOR section for where you're located and throw it out there seeing if a local can help you out. Hope this helps. If I have any misinformation on here, anyone feel free to correct me. This is what I've been told/read through other threads on here.

The above post is spot on.

Some guys have had success running ATR on a Mac, but I have zero experience with MAC applications.

The BPV will not affect your tune.

Right now buying FP internals is out of the question. Tuition this semester killed me! So as long as my pressure is holding above 1600psi I should be ok? @adrager622 who was it that ran the modified stage1 tune? Looks like I need to send him a PM.

If ATR is a .exe file I think there is a way to open it up and run through terminal. If not then looks like I'll be finding a copy of Windows. Anyone know what file type ATR is?

Ok so I've now had 2 people from Cobb (Travis & Ian) tell me I can run a stage2 map. I'm just really worried about fuel pressure and stress on the stock pump with a stage2 map. I know I won't get as much of a gain with stage1+SF 93 map but will it be ok to run that map with a test pipe?

Or if I do run the stage2 map and fuel pressure looks good I guess I'll be ok but will that add premature ware on the pump?

All the stage 2 maps I have seen command around 1800 from the FP...so you will prolly run into issues there. I know it didnt take much for me to run into Fule cut, and going lean is not going to do your engine any favors. However, the newest Cobb stage 2 tunes have a Safe Map also, for people without upgraded HPFP. Check the Cobb Maps for more info on that.

Honestly, most people here will strongly advise against trying to get everything you can out of your car. the HPFP is prolly one of the MOST important upgrades. Running a Stage 2 Map without a HPFP upgrade isnt going to cause premature wear on your stock pump....but it might cause some rods exiting your block...

That's exactly what I was thinking. The fuel pressure required by stage2 isn't going to be met by a stock pump. Now what are we looking at ere in order to change a stage1 map to work with a test pipe

Read abilor's tuning guide. I tweaked the balls out of my stage 1 tune and it runs like a champ with my mods listed below.

Pretty much my setup minus the FMIC and inlet. Are you on the stock fuel pump? Whats your pressure like?

Watch, I'm getting all paranoid and haven't even gotten the AP yet and my fuel pressure probably will turn out to be fine! knock on wood!

The main thing is get the AP, install it, and run some logs. After your next upgrade, reflash, tune, etc. and run some more logs. You may be fine with your FP. Like someone has said "there is no clear cut line when the FP takes a shit." Some people have fully bolted cars that run fine on the stocker and some have failed with just an intake. If I were you, I would just do the HPFP upgrade. It'll give you that extra piece of mind that you will not have to worry about that part failing on you! But the most important thing is to monitor like a hawk and just take it easy. Trust me, I'm new to tuning with the AP haha, this is just info I have read over and over again lol. Good luck!

So far with the mods I have the car runs real strong. Only issue I'm running into is since I put the test pipe on in 5th gear at wot at around 4800-5500 boost will surge from 15psi-17psi and do this till I let off. Even when the car does this I never get any sort of cut but I always let off just incase anything screwy is going on. My guess is the ecu doesn't know what to do with all the air coming in and exiting. Just maxed out the stock tune and need the AP. At least I hope thats my problem.

Well, get the AP and do a few logs. That should help put into perspective how your car is doing. I would be a little easy on the car until you get the AP.

Exactly! Its only in 5th that it does it but I still haven't been beating on it. This next month needs to fly by faster so I can get the AP!

Haha I know how that felt. I was way too anxious when I ordered mine to get it in. Well hopefully it arrives soon and you can finally see how your car is running.

I'm in the same boat, man.

I have SRI, TP, CBE (MS6, btw), and have been told to run Stage 2, but I'm not very fond of the idea without at least upgrading my FP. Which won't be for a long while, the best.

I've received a ton of insight from members here how to tune correctly and calibrate things as they should be. It's quite daunting for someone (like myself) with NO tuning experience whatsoever. But I'm just simply easing myself into it.

Ideally, I would like to run a Stage 1 map, for the time being, with my Aeros calibrated, idle raised, and boost targeted a tad bit higher---while being safe, of course. Time will tell!
